Laura Hahn has been the director of the Academy for Excellence in Engineering Education (AE3) since 2013. Her connections to the College of Engineering go back to the 1990s, when she collaborated with engineering faculty and teaching assistants through the campus teaching center. She is now responsible for coordinating the college’s efforts to provide undergraduate students with an outstanding engineering education.
With a background in language teaching and learning, Laura brings a unique background to AE3 and IEFX. She has taught classes for international teaching assistants, and has given numerous workshops and conference papers on classroom communication. She has also collaborated with faculty on international project-based learning experiences for students. And she has done over 1000 observations of faculty, teaching assistants, and teaching-practicum students at Illinois! Don’t be surprised if you see her sitting in the back of one of your classes.
Laura earned her bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She’s a loyal Illini and wants the world to know about the excellent instruction and teaching innovations in the College of Engineering.
